A new smart vending machine at the People of the Dawn Indigenous Friendship Centre in Stephenville, N.L., is expanding access to free, potentially life-saving health supplies — at no cost to the community.
Called Our Healthbox, the unit provides discreet access to harm reduction and wellness supplies Monday to Friday, located in the hallway leading to the Centre’s offices.
Officially unveiled Wednesday, the machine dispenses naloxone kits, HIV self-testing kits, safer consumption supplies such as sterile needles, sexual health items, menstrual and hygiene products, and traditional medicine kits.
“As an organization, we are always exploring new ways to deliver services and supports to our community, and this is an innovative way to do that,” said Patrick Park-Tighe, Executive Director of the People of the Dawn Indigenous Friendship Centre.
“We are incredibly proud to be the first organization in the province to host one.”
